ST. CUTHBERT'S WAY

Learn the story about St Cuthbert, a shepherd lad in the Borders, who one night while attending his sheep in the lonely Boredr hills saw a vision of angels in the sky. The next day he joined the monastery, then at Old Melrose. After several years he went to the monastery at Lindisfarne to be a prior.

The route of St. Cuthbert's Way goes through some of the most beautiful scenery in Great Britain, the walk links a number of places associated with his story and probably the way he travelled to Lindisfarne.

St. Cuthbert's Way starts at Melrose, over the Eildon Hills to Bowden, along Bowden Burn to Newtown, follow the River Tweed to Dryburgh and St Boswells, then by Mertoun Bridge to Maxton. Follow Dere Street to Monteviot, visit Harestanes Centre, follow Dere Street to Crailing Hall and Cessford Farms, follow the road to Morebattle, up the Kale Valley and over the hills to Yetholm. From Kirk Yetholm take the Pennine Way the over the Cheviot Hills by way of the Colledge Valley to Wooler. On leaving Wooler, walk over Weetwood and Doddington Moors, then take the path to Holburn Grange, visit St. Cuthbert's Cave, follow the paths and bridleways to Fenwick. After Fenwick follow the route to Holy Island.

Learn about St. Cuthbert's pilgrimage on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Visit Durham Cathedral and St. Cuthbert's Shrine.

The Highlands of Scotland have something for everyone, for people who like to travel. there's a different view round every corner, each area has it's own particular character and appeal, attractions and activities. Highlanders value their land, heritage and culture, and are keen to share them with visitors.
A Highland Journey. We travel through Glenshee, in the middle of winter, stopping at the ski fields, then to Braemar, visitthe Royal Family's Scottish residence at Balmoral Castle in Royal Deeside and Crathie Church, then to Ballater. Visit spectacular Dunnotter Castle and Stornoway. Travel to Aberdeen, Elgin, Forres and Nairn, the battlefield at Culloden, then to Fort George. Our next stop is at Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, along the Caledonian Canal, and Lock Ness to Urquart Castle, then on to Fort Augustas, back to Drumnadrochit and visit the beautiful Glen Affric. We now take the 'Road to the Isles', past the Five Sisters of Kintail, and Eilean Donnan Castle at Dornie. Stop at the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge. A tour up Glen Nevis. Travel the Jacobite Stean Train to Mallaig, on the West Highland Railway, stopping at Glenfinnan. From Fort William to Glen Coe and hear the story of the Massacre, then by Connel Bridge to Oban. Our journey ends on the historic Isle of Iona
